Hurricane Harvey Rockport Recovery - Coordinated by Coastal Oaks Church

The August 2017 impact of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas Gulf Coast was devastating. The eye of the storm passed over the town of Rockport, Texas.  Coastal Oaks Church has been one of the numerous locations coordinating volunteers for the recovery effort.  Volunteers will be assigned to homes or businesses in need of help in the Rockport community.  This is an ALL DAY location.

Volunteers will work in debris removal and clean up efforts.  

Volunteer Block  time: 8:30am-4:30pm  - Allows for Travel, Work time is 9:30am-3:30pm

Hurricane Harvey Port Aransas Recovery - Coordinated by City of Port Aransas

The August 2017 impact of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas Gulf Coast was devastating. The gulf front town of Port Aransas took a direct hit. The City of Port Aransas is coordinating recovery efforts of public locations.  Volunteers will work on recovery efforts at the Port Aransas Nature Preserve in an area known as Charlie’s Pasture. Volunteers will assist in recovery and rebuilding. This is an ALL DAY location.

Volunteers will work in clean up efforts and landscaping recovery.  

Volunteer Block  time: 8:30am-4:30pm  - Allows for Travel, Work time is 9:30am-3:30pm

 

Hurricane Harvey Coastal Bend Recovery - Coordinated by Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi 

Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi is actively responding with emergency aid and supplies to families in the Coastal Bend area impacted by Hurricane Harvey. They have helped thousands of individuals in the Coastal Bend impacted by the hurricane with aid donations when they needed it most. 

Volunteers will sort and organize donations.  

Volunteer Block  time: 9am-noon

Coastal Bend Food Bank (formerly the Food Bank of Corpus Christi)

The Coastal Bend Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that solicits and distributes food which might otherwise go to waste or be discarded by manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. Since 1982, the Coastal Bend Food Bank has been fighting hunger in South Texas by providing food and personal care products to various charity and service agencies. They have been actively involved in Hurricane Harvey care and recovery efforts.

Volunteers will work in the Food Bank warehouse sorting food donations.  

Volunteer block time available:  1 - 4pm

Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center 

Glenoak’s certified therapeutic riding instructors and special therapy horses are the catalyst to miracles in handicapped lives. Glenoak’s program is about children and adults who reach beyond the confines of their disabilities because of the intervention of this special therapy team. In this unique setting, horses, dogs, pigs and donkeys roam the property. Participants may be working in close proximity to the animals.

Volunteers will be cleaning and clearing existing trails. Light manual labor 

Volunteer block time available: 9am-noon  

Loaves & Fishes

Loaves & Fishes is part of Corpus Christi Metro Ministries and committed to continuing to care for the chronically homeless on Leopard Street and the hundreds of working poor. Meals are provided at no cost to those in need. 

Volunteers will work food service line & kitchen (must have food handlers card).
Volunteers without a food handlers card may participate, by assisting patrons in the dining room. 

Volunteer Block time: 11:30am-1:30pm

Women's Shelter of South Texas

The Women's Shelter of South Texas supports and empowers individuals affected by family violence and sexual assault through safe shelter and outreach while providing advocacy, education, and resources. 

Volunteers will work sorting donations and cleaning supply storage areas.

Volunteer block time available: 1-3pm

Gulf Coast Humane Society

Gulf Coast Humane Society houses and cares for hundreds of animals at any given time and is the largest true no kill facility in South Texas. They work to rehabilitate and care for lost and abandoned animals as well as reunite found pets with their families. 

Volunteers will provide needed love to the animals and walking exercise outdoors.

Volunteer block time available: 9am - Noon

Gloria Hicks Elementary School 

Named for community philanthropist, Gloria Hicks, Hicks Elementary School serves some high risk neighborhoods. Volunteers will be wrapping holiday gifts for the school's students.

Corpus Christi Mission 911

Mission 911 serves the Coastal Bend community by providing apartments, vocational support, spiritual support, and hope for people in poverty and for adults of all ages of the hard-to-serve population. It provides mentoring programs, spiritual uplifting, basic life skills programs, substance abuse programs and vocational training on site as well housing for those in need. 

Volunteers will sort and organize donations and decorate for the holidays.  

Volunteer Block  time: 1pm-4am

On Campus Participation Options

Islander Lights - Toys for Tots fundraising drive

In it's 11 years, the annual Islander Lights event has raised thousands of dollars and hundreds of toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive, providing holiday gifts for underprivileged children in our community.

Volunteers will staff monetary donation tables in the UC and Library Breezeway.

Volunteer block times in one hour increments from 11am-2pm.  

Izzy's Food Pantry - Campus Food Drive

Izzy’s Food Pantry, in partnership with the Coastal Bend Food Bank, strives to provide food assistance for currently enrolled Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students in need. Providing TAMU-CC students with a convenient site to obtain food assistance when needed, helps ensure that students who are food insecure are able to meet their nutritional needs and minimize adverse impacts on their academic progress and success.

Volunteers will staff food donation tables in the University Center.

Volunteer block times in one hour increments from 11am-2pm.
